Rt. Rev. John Baptist Odama was the first local ordinary of Nebbi Catholic Diocese who received his Episcopal Ordination on the 26th of May 1996. The See of Nebbi was by the time of its erection, under the metropolitan See of Kampala. It was only when more Ecclesiastical Provinces were created in Uganda in 1999 that Nebbi Catholic Diocese ceased to belong to Kampala Archdiocese and now came under the Ecclesiastical province of Gulu with its first Metropolitan Archbishop being Rt. Rev. John Baptist Odama.
When Gulu diocese was raised to the level of a Metropolitan, Rt. Rev. John Baptist Odama was elevated to the level of an archbishop leaving the See of Nebbi catholic Diocese vacant. Rt. Rev. Martin Luluga who was the then Bishop of Gulu was transferred to Nebbi to replace Rt. Rev. John Baptist Odama in 1999. Rt. Rev. Martin Luluga shepherded Nebbi Catholic Diocese until the appointment of a new Bishop was announced on 8th February 2011.
Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok was appointed by his Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on the 08th of February 2011. This was followed by his Episcopal consecration 2 months later at Nebbi which was on 30th April 2011
Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok was appointed Bishop of Lira Catholic Diocese on 9th of February 2019. The College of Consultors of Nebbi Catholic Diocese on 11th February 2019, elected Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Odaga as the Diocesan Administrator to carry on temporarily the governance of Nebbi Catholic Diocese during the period of Sede Vacante [Can 421§1] until 14 August 2021 when he handed over the diocese to the new Bishop, Rt. Rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach.
Msgr. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, M.C.C.J was appointed by the Holy Father, Pope Francis on 31st March 2021 as the new Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese. He was consequently ordained Bishop on Saturday 14th August 2021.
Nebbi Catholic Diocese now 21 years was part of the then Gulu Apostolic Vicariate which started or was declared in 1923. Just as Gulu developed from one state to another, this diocese was not yet in plan, though there were already some parishes scattered to help the Faith which was already growing well among the people as they had received it with great joy and as a special gift from God.
